Emma Raducanu’s attitude will ‘take her to the very top’ says renowned analyst
Grand Slam legend Mats Wilander has heaped praise onto British starlet Emma Raducanu after she produced a gutsy, comeback display on her French Open debut.
On Monday, the British number one Emma Raducanu produced a fine comeback as she rallied from a set down to beat fellow teen and junior French Open champion Linda Noskova 6-7(4), 7-5, 6-1 to reach the second round of the Paris Slam.
Raducanu was also a break down twice in the second set but immediately broke back on both occasions before clinching a third break to level the match.
She eventually closed out the tie after two hours and 40 minutes on court, breaking her younger opponent twice in the deciding set to earn a memorable debut win.
Discussing the 19-year-old’s victory, former world number one Mats Wilander argued that it was Emma Raducanu’s attitude which played a pivotal role in her victory and also a reason why the US champion can break into the top ten of the WTA rankings.
The Swede told Eurosport, “People are sort of doubting her a little bit, she hasn’t been around that long, but I have to say every time I see her play, I am convinced she is going to get to the top of the women’s game at some point because her attitude is absolutely fantastic.
“She does everything well on court, she moves well and is solid off both sides. The most important part: she has a great attitude through all these tough times, when everybody is doubting her and she’s not winning many matches. She’s so positive and I love watching her play because of her attitude.”
