Emma Raducanu ‘has everything to go and win’ major tournaments says top analyst

Former world number two Alex Corretja has claimed that Emma Raducanu has the ability “to go and win” major championships, saying that “she needs consistency.”

The US Open champion has struggled for consistent form and fitness during her first full season on the WTA tour, as she heads into Wimbledon with only 8 wins from 19 matches this season and 33 minutes of grass court match practice under her belt.

Emma Raducanu is set to face Belgium’s Alison van Uytvanck in the first round, as the Bromley born teen looks to better her fourth round finish from last year’s edition at SW19.

Discussing her chances at Wimbledon next week, two-time French Open finalist Alex Corretja insisted that she can be dangerous despite struggling with injuries and having inconsistent form since her stunning triumph as a qualifier in New York last year.

Speaking exclusively to Eurosport, the Spaniard told reporters, “She needs consistency, she needs to practice, she needs to be committed to her style and to the way she wants to play.

“She needs to find her way because whenever she finds her way, you see how dangerous and how aggressive she is, and how well she moves. But for that you need to play matches.

“So whenever she will find that consistency again, I’m sure she’s going to be great because she’s got everything to just go there and win tournaments.”

Corretja continued as he discussed the pressures of being a home crowd a favourite and the expectations of Emma Raducanu, as he called for the Brit to just focus on herself.

“I think the amount of pressure Emma is holding on her shoulders has to be huge and super difficult to deal with.

“She needs to focus on herself. But going into Wimbledon, I think she needs to go there and be healthy.”
