Emma Raducanu ‘expects to win’ as Brit star crushes Barty conqueror
Emma Raducanu, the 18 year old sensation of women’s tennis, has overcome another hurdle in her quest for major glory as she moves into the US open quarter finals
At 0-40 in the third game of the opening set Emma Raducanu was staring down a possible 0-3 deficit in her match with leading American Shelby Rogers but managed to perform the most epic of recoveries and won the next 11 games to lead 6-2 5-0. She eventually won the match 6-2 6-1 to set up an intriguing encounter against Olympic champion Belinda Bencic.
According to respected commentator and former coach of Andy Murray, Mark Petchey, Raducanu possesses the same belief as great players such as Martina Navratilova that she deserves to be on the biggest of stages which is why she’s evidently unphased by this incredible deep run at the years’ final Grand Slam.
Rogers had overcome the world number one Ash Barty in the previous round but was seemingly powerless once Raducanu found her stride. The youngster becomes the first British woman in 46 years to reach the final 16 before turning 19 years old.
