Emma Raducanu confirms first match in front of home crowd since US Open triumph

British starlet Emma Raducanu has announced when she will next play in the UK, marking her first tournament at home since winning the US Open last September.

The Rothesay Classic, from 13th to 19th June, is where Emma Raducanu will receive a hero’s welcome as she competes in the UK for the first time since her historic win at Flushing Meadows.

The grass-court event in Birmingham will act as warm up for the 19-year-old ahead of the Wimbledon Championships at the end of June, as she will look to repeat her heroics from last years tournament.

In 2021, Raducanu burst onto the scene as a wildcard to reach the last 16 before she was forced to retire due to illness during her fourth round match.

Speaking about her entry into the tournament, the world number 12 said in a recent interview that she cannot wait to be back in front of British fans.

The Bromley born Raducanu told reporters, “I can’t wait to play in Britain again and I’m delighted to be competing at the Rothesay Classic in Birmingham in the 40th year of this terrific showcase for women’s tennis. It will be great to get back on to the grass at home, where the backing of the British fans was so fantastic.”

However, before she is set to make a triumphant return to British shores, Raducanu will be hoping to be niggle free, as the teenager has had several injury woes so far in 2022.

Most recently, ahead of her debut at the Rome Open, Emma Raducanu has said she is still “managing” a back injury which she picked up at the Madrid Masters last week.
