Great Britain pulled off an upset in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifying round.

Despite the absence of Emma Raducanu, Katie Boulter, Sonay Kartal and Francesca Jones, the British team defeated Australia 3-1 and have advanced to the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
Mika Stojsavljevic, 17, began proceedings by defeating world number 76 Talia Gibson 7-6, 7-5.
Harriet Dart, the world number 173, then upset Kimberley Birrell in the second rubber, winning the contest 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Dart and Jodie Burrage completed the upset by defeating Storm Hunter and Ellen Perez 6-3, 6-4 in the doubles rubber.

Emma Raducanu now has the opportunity to correct her mistake from last year.
Raducanu decided against competing in the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup Finals, instead choosing to focus on WTA Tour events and developing her relationships with ex-coach Francisco Roig.

When in her best form, Raducanu remains Great Britain’s most fearsome player; and she must consider taking her talents to Shenzhen this autumn for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.

Emma Raducanu’s last Billie Jean King Cup appearance
Raducanu made her BJK Cup debut in 2024 during Great Britain’s qualifying tie against France.
Raducanu was an instrumental figure in Britain’s 3-1 victory, defeating Carolina Garcia and Diane Parry.
In the BJK Finals, Raducanu continued to display impressive form, defeating Germany’s Jule Niemeier and Canada’s Rebecca Marino.
In the semi-finals, Raducanu defeated Viktoria Hruncakova 6-4, 6-4. However, she was unable to prevent her nation’s 1-2 loss to Slovakia.
“We’re all absolutely gutted,” said Captain Anne Keothavong after Great Britain’s defeat, as per the Lawn Tennis Association.

“We came into this event really believing that we had a good shot at it but unfortunately, we came up short.
“Overall, I feel really proud of this team, not just for their efforts in Malaga but all the previous ties to take us to this stage.”
