Easy win for Jankovic

Sixth seed Jankovic, from Serbia, easily won the first set 6-2 and took the next 6-4 to advance to the last 32.

Benesova, ranked 35th in the world, put up stiffer resistance in the second set on Court Two but could still not cope with the power and speed of Jankovic.

Although Benesova managed to give herself a fighting chance at 4-3 down, her own unforced errors and some sublime passing shots gave Jankovic a break and a 5-3 lead.

There was no sign of trouble from the blisters and broken toenail which affected Jankovic in her first-round success over German Julia Goerges.

The Serbian required medical treatment during that match, but against Benesova she looked back to her best.

Jankovic had withstood a second-set comeback from Goerges but today Benesova could not deal with the consistent and accurate returns.

Jankovic, who had served superbly all evening, was not in the frame of mind to let Benesova recover the break.

And despite double-faulting on her first match point, Jankovic punched away a superb forehand volley in the next rally to make certain of her progress.
