After six months without hitting a competitive ball, former world No.1 Maria Sharapova will make her return to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour in Indian Wells this week.

The 21-year-old Russian has been missing from the womens game since she pulled out of the Rogers Cup in Canada last August and is now out of the womens top 20, currently occupying 23rd position in the world rankings.

The wait is over, however, as MaSha has announced that her shoulder has healed sufficiently for her to play doubles with fellow Russian Elena Vesnina at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden this week.

“I am excited to be playing competitive tennis again,” the three-times Grand Slam champ said.

It will be the first time Sharapova will be playing a doubles event for four years. The draw is made on Monday.
