Djokovic to face Kubot in final

Top seed Djokovic was always the hot favourite to win the inaugural title but he needed to come from a set down to defeat Andreas Seppi.

The Italian piled the pressure on in the first set, forcing Djokovic to save five break points before finally taking his opportunity but the Serbian world number three was not prepared to disappoint his fans and he breezed through the second set before breaking the Seppi serve again at the start of the decider.

The fourth seed battled hard but could not prevent Djokovic claiming a 4-6 6-1 6-2 victory.

If Djokovic is a predictable finalist, Polish lucky loser Kubot certainly is not.

The 26-year-old, who is ranked 179th in the world, reached his first ATP Tour final with a 7-6 (7/0) 6-2 victory over second seed Ivo Karlovic today.

Clay is giant Croatian Karlovic’s least favourite surface but it was still a considerable scalp for Kubot, who is a doubles specialist.
