The couple are currently on holiday in the Greek capital Athens as Djokovic rests his injured wrist ahead of an expected return at the Mutua Madrid Open on May 4.

He took to social media to announce the news that they are expecting their first child, writing on Twitter: “Jelena is pregnant!!!We will be parents soon! #blessed.”

He added on Facebook: “My dear friends, You've been with me through many tough and good times in my career. I've been blessed to travel the world, play the most beautiful sport that brings me a lot of excitement and joy; I am happy, loved and healthy. Jelena and I are truly blessed to soon become parents! My love is pregnant!”

The couple got engaged after last year’s US Open but there has not yet been any indication when the baby is due.
