Novak Djokovic references personal issues in congratulatory message to Alexander Zverev

Alexander Zverev triumphed at the ATP finals and the ‘great guy’ was congratulated by Novak Djokovic whilst referencing Zverev’s personal troubles

Writing on his Twitter account., the Serbian Djokovic was quick to congratulate ‘Sacha’ Zverev on his ATP finals victory after overcoming Daniil Medvedev in a straightforward 2 set final. Djokovic himself was beaten by the tall German in a close semi finals.

Djokovic said, ‘Alexander Zverev had a tough year on/off the court. I know how much tennis helps me to grow & I’m happy that it was Sascha’s winning field this year. He is such a great guy. I can only say words of praise for him & his team. Well done for grand season finale & a big trophy Sascha!’

During the year Zverev was involved in an acrimonious split from his management company which ended in the British High Courts. Zverev has also been subject to accusations about his relationship with a former girlfriend.

On the court World No.3 won the Olympics mens singles plus Madrid and Vienna. Djokovic’s comments may have been referring to serving issues that bugged the young German throughout the early part of 2021 but has seemingly been put behind him after this dominant display in Turin.
