Novak Djokovic says it’s ‘a possibility’ he could join Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray at Laver Cup 2022
Novak Djokovic has admitted that he is considering playing the Laver Cup for the first time since 2018, a move that would see all of the ‘Big Four’ playing the event altogether for the first time.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Laver Cup announced that Andy Murray would make his event debut at his home edition this September in London.
That sees him as the third confirmed participant for Team Europe behind Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
With three of the four dream slots filled, Tennishead thought to ask Djokovic if he would play the event along with his biggest rivals later in the year.
He replied: “It would be very unique.
“It is a possibility.
“My agent has communication with the Laver Cup team.
“We have an agreement that there will be a decision after Wimbledon is finished.”
Not only will the event be in London, but it will be at the O2 Arena, the same venue where the ATP Finals were held between 2009 and 2020.
Of course, all of the Big Four have plenty of experience at that venue, something Tennishead brought up with Djokovic.
He added: “[The ATP Finals] stayed [at the O2] for a long time, with a reason, because it was such a successful event.
“The tradition here in Britain for tennis contributed to a very successful event over the course of more than 10 years.
“So, of course, it would be a pleasure to play there again.”
Laver Cup has offered some great moments for fans looking to see their favourite players team up.
The highlights of those may be when Federer and Nadal teamed up in doubles in the 2017 edition and Federer and Djokovic did so in 2018.
Djokovic and Murray have teamed up in doubles twice before at competitive events in their careers.
They did so early, at the 2006 Australian Open, and five years on at the 2011 Miami Open, losing on both occasions.
