Stosur went in front after taking the opener on a tie-break, however Dementieva’s performance improved and the world number five levelled the match before completing a 6-7 (3/7) 6-1 6-3 victory.

There were eight breaks of serve in the opening set – four to each player – but Dementieva only relinquished serve once more in the match as she booked a showdown with either Czech player Lucie Safarova or American Serena Williams.
