Del Potro made to work for win

Del Potro is bidding to win the first grand slam of 2010 after landing the last of 2009 by triumphing at the US Open.

He was comfortable enough in opening up a two-set lead but Russell then hit back to win the third. However, del Potro was able to raise his performance to wrap up a 6-4 6-4 3-6 6-2 victory, setting up a clash with France’s Sebastien Grosjean or Turkey’s Marsel Ilhan.
