Daniil Medvedev continued his resurgence with another win at the Shanghai Masters and it helped him continue a record that no one is close to taking from him.
Medvedev’s hard-court record is incredible, and it continued against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who the Russian dispatched in straight sets.
The World No. 18 impressed at the China Open, before he was forced to retire against Learner Tien, and he’s looked every bit as good at the Shanghai Masters.
The star has a real chance of lifting the trophy after the mass exodus of much of the ATP top 20, especially on hard-court, which he’s dominated on since 2018.

Daniil Medvedev has more than 60 wins on hard-court than anyone else on the ATP Tour since 2018
Medvedev’s latest win over Davidovich Fokina ensured his 296th win on the ATP Tour since his breakthrough year in 2018.
The Russian favours hard courts, displayed by his only Grand Slam win at the US Open, and he’s often dominated on the surface.
Medvedev has 60 more wins than Andrey Rublev in second place and it’s a record he will likely keep for a very long time.
| Players | Wins on hard-court since 2018 |
| Daniil Medvedev | 296 |
| Andrey Rublev | 236 |
| Alexander Zverev | 235 |
| Alex De Minaur | 222 |
| Novak Djokovic | 220 |
Novak Djokovic, who has dominated the sport for the past two decades, has 76 fewer wins than Medvedev in that time period.
Medvedev has had a disappointing year in 2025, suffering early exits in the Australian Open and the US Open, which makes his hard court record even more impressive.
The former World No. 1 has truly bounced back on the ATP Tour’s Asian leg, showing some of his best qualities once again.
Daniil Medvedev comments on latest Shanghai Masters win
Medvedev was delighted to get through his match with Davidovich Fokina in tough conditions to continue his strong start under new coach Thomas Johansson.
“I could have played better, I was a bit sloppy in the second set but I’m happy with the win and to get through,” said Medvedev to Sky Sports after the match.
Speaking about the impact of his new coach, Medvedev responded: “We haven’t been together for a long time so what happens now shouldn’t be on the coach. Things haven’t been happening for a while now so I had to make the change and start to work with a new coach.
“I know how to play tennis but it’s just the little pieces of advice that Thomas has given me that’s really helped me. It’s been good so far.”
Medvedev plays Tien in the fourth round of the Shanghai Masters, which is a rematch from their China Open clash a week ago.
