Daniil Medvedev produced an incredible display to secure his place in the Almaty Open semi-final.

Medvedev reached a milestone in Almaty earlier in the week, and he followed it up with a dominant straight sets victory against Fábián Marozsan.

The Russian star is the highest seed left in the draw after Karen Khachanov’s exit in the second round, and the World No. 18 could now produce a late charge in the race to the ATP Finals.

Medvedev’s display was called ‘jaw-dropping’ against Marozsan and he hit an extreme height with one attribute in particular.

Daniil Medvedev’s first serve was incredible in Almaty

Medvedev was imperious on serve against Marozsan as he sailed through to the semi-finals at the Almaty Open.

The Russian hit nine aces against the Hungarian as he managed a supreme 81% of first serves across the two sets.

That’s the third-best first serve percentage of Medvedev’s career in best-of-three set matches and he certainly looked to return to his best at the indoor event.

Sky Sports commentator Robbie Koenig was stunned by what he was seeing from Medvedev in the Almaty Open quarter-final.

“What a serving performance!” said the broadcaster after Medvedev wrapped up the match against Marozsan. Before adding: “Jaw-dropping!”

Medvedev will play qualifier James Duckworth in the semi-final with the other side of the draw yet to be set.

Although the scoreline looked straightforward, the Russian described his quarter-final clash as ‘really tough’ in his post-match interview.

“I had to save three set points,” explained Medvedev. “But I’m really happy with the way I played, especially after this moment, and I’m happy I managed to win.”

The star continued: “I served really well today, and I managed to step up my game when I needed to, so I hope I can continue playing this way.”

Medvedev is looking for his first title of the year at the Almaty Open as he continues his resurgence under new coach Thomas Johansson.
