Daniil Medvedev started his season in stunning fashion by defeating Brandon Nakashima and winning the Brisbane International.

The Russian star lived up to his top seed status to continue his resurgence under new coaches Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke.

Medvedev’s latest win follows his victory at the Altmaty Open and he now sits on the cusp of the ATP Tour top 10 as the world number 12.

The Russian star’s victory at the Brisbane International has seen him achieve a feat that only Roger Federer and Lleyton Hewitt have managed.

Daniil Medvedev has now won in both Sydney and Brisbane

Medvedev’s victory at the Brisbane International means he is just the third player to win in Brisbane and the now defunct Sydney International.

Medvedev won the 2018 Sydney International after defeating Alex de Minaur in the final and his latest win in Brisbane sees him join Federer and Hewitt as the only player to win both tournaments.

What is your bold prediction for the 2026 tennis season?

Hewitt won the Sydney International four times between 2000 and 2005, and his sole win at the Brisbane International came in 2014, when he beat Federer in the final.

Federer, meanwhile, won the Sydney International on one occasion in 2002 and followed it up with a sole victory in Brisbane in 2015.

The Sydney International was replaced on the ATP Tour calendar in 2023 by the United Cup, which is held across Sydney and Perth.

Daniil Medvedev continued a remarkable streak with his Brisbane victory

Medvedev’s victory at the Brisbane International was his 22nd career win of his career on the ATP Tour, but the Russian star has somehow managed to win a different event every single time.

He has never won the same tournament twice and he is the only player in Open Era history to win 20+ career titles in different locations.

Medvedev has reached the final of tournaments he has previously won, such as the US Open, but he has lost the final every single time.

Luckily for Medvedev, the star is yet to win the Australian Open so he will be positive he can lift the trophy in Melbourne.
