Carlos Alcaraz began his 2025 Laver Cup campaign with a win, but it also meant he lost a record at the same time.
Alcaraz is the star player for Team Europe at the Laver Cup and he started his tournament in doubles action with Jakub Mensik.
The Spaniard and Czech star defeated Taylor Fritz and Alex Michelsen in straight sets to notch up a 3-1 lead over Team World after the opening day of matches.
The win may have extended Team Europe’s lead, but it also saw Alcaraz lose a Laver Cup record to Mensik.

Jakub Mensik takes Carlos Alcaraz’s Laver Cup record after doubles win
Mensik was the only player on Team Europe to play twice as he picked up two points for his side with back-to-back victories.
Mensik’s wins over Michelsen and Fritz and Michelsen on day one mean he’s the youngest player to win singles and doubles matches on the same day of the Laver Cup.
The Czech star took the record from his doubles partner, Alcaraz, who achieved the feat at last year’s event.
The Spaniard defeated Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe alongside Casper Ruud, as well as defeating Fritz in singles action.
Mensik is performing in his very first Laver Cup after first attending the tournament in 2017 as a 12-year-old.
Laver Cup day two action
Team World will be looking to produce a comeback on day two after falling behind by two-points on day one.
Alex De Minaur has been tasked with the first game for Team World as he takes on Alexander Zverev in singles action.
Francisco Cerúndolo will be hoping to follow in Mensik’s footsteps as another successful Laver Cup rookie when he takes on Holger Rune.
Fritz has the unenviable challenge of trying to stop Alcaraz, while the doubles match will be Rune and Ruud vs De Minaur and Michelsen.
