Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner’s main threat on the ATP Tour in 2026 may be starting to emerge

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have dominated the ATP Tour over the past two years, winning the last eight Grand Slams combined.

Not even Novak Djokovic has managed to halt the tidal wave of brilliance displayed by the pair; Djokovic has not won a Grand Slam since the 2023 US Open.

The pair have contested the last three Grand Slam finals, and few would bet against the duo contesting another at the 2026 Australian Open.

Potential contenders such as Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev have faded into the background, leaving a dearth of contenders.

However, one top 20 player has demonstrated excellent form in the latter half of 2025, and could be about to challenge Alcaraz and Sinner for tennis’ biggest prizes.

Felix Auger-Aliassime could be set to challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner

Felix Auger-Aliassime continued his excellent recent form on Wednesday, defeating Lorenzo Musetti in the Shanghai Masters round of 16.

The Canadian reached his first Grand Slam semi-final in four years at the 2025 US Open, and has continued to impress in China.

Musetti, who is hanging on to the last ATP Finals spot, simply could not handle Auger-Aliassime’s power and foot speed during a 6-4, 6-2 loss.

Auger-Aliassime has long been considered one of the most talented players on the ATP Tour, and his potential could be realised in 2026.

His talent is considered to be behind that of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, but there can be no doubting his ability to hurt both players in Grand Slam tournaments.

This was demonstrated in the US Open semi-finals, where the Canadian took a set off Jannik Sinner, before losing in four sets.

Blessed with an elite serve and powerful forehand, the Canadian can go far. His backhand, a liability in the past, has also improved in recent months, resulting in no obvious weakness for his opponents to target.

The former world number six has been gifted generational talent, and after falling by the wayside for a number of years, he may be about to realise his potential.

Felix Auger-Aliassime’s poor recent form against Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner

Although Auger-Aliassime certainly has the potential to defeat Alcaraz and Sinner, he has not been able to in recent memory.

In fact, his last win against either player came in 2022, before either Alcaraz or Sinner had won a Grand Slam.

Since 2022, Alcaraz and Sinner have combined to win their last six meetings against the Canadian.
