Defending Stockholm Open champion Tommy Paul has withdrawn from the 2025 event amid ongoing injury concerns.

Earlier this year, Paul suffered an abdominal strain during the French Open second round, before rupturing a tendon in his foot at Wimbledon.

The American returned to the court at the Cincinnati Open, but again suffered another injury setback just a few weeks later during his US Open third-round match against Alexander Bublik.

It remains to be seen when Paul, who also withdrew from the Shanghai Masters, will return to competitive play.

However, Paul’s unfortunate circumstances have opened the door for a British star to make his return to the ATP Tour.

Jacob Fearnley is set to play at the Stockholm Open

British star Jacob Fearnley has been suffering from a rib injury since his second-round exit to Alexander Zverev at the US Open.

These issues forced the Brit to miss Great Britain’s Davis Cup clash against Poland and the Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai.

However, Fearnley has evidently recovered from his physical issue and is currently competing in a Challenger event in Roanne, France.

Fearnley is now set to return to the ATP Tour in Stockholm, Sweden, taking Tommy Paul’s spot at the Stockholm Open following the American’s withdrawal.

Two special exemption spots have also been removed from the draw, meaning Bosnia’s Damian Dzumhur and America’s Aleksandar Kovacevic are also set to compete in Sweden.

Jacob Fearnley wins his first match back from injury

Fearnley, the number one seed, has won his opening match at the ATP Challenger event in Roanne, France.

The 24-year-old battled through a tough contest against Frenchman Luca Van Assche, winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Fearnley is set to contest his next match against Swiss player Dominic Stricker on Wednesday.

Some notable figures are taking part in the tournament, including Pablo Carreno Busta, Jordan Thompson and former junior Wimbledon champion Nicolai Budkov Kjaer.
