Boris Becker ‘was worried’ about Nadal but he’s ‘earned his status’
Boris Becker is happy that Nadal and Medvedev have reached the Australian Open men’s singles final but is concerned over the Russian’s brutal honesty.
The two best players in the tournament, namely Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev, have earned their place in Sunday’s final but the honesty spoken by the Russian isn’t always the right thing according to tennis legend and Eurosport commentator Boris Becker.
Becker has said,
“For me, the two best players are in the final. For Nadal I’m happy because I’m a big fan of him and I was worried after his surgery. But Nadal wouldn’t be Nadal if he didn’t have a chance to win every time he plays a tournament.
“Nadal has earned his status over the years. He says the right things even after the match. You can’t say that about Medvedev, who is very honest – that’s not always good. But Daniil also earned a few hearts here, especially with his fighting performance.”
Nadal will face Medvedev on Sunday in an attempt to win his 21st Grand slam singles title. Currently he’s level with Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer on 20.
Medvedev has a chance to reach the pinnacle of tennis and become ranked world no.1 potentially overtaking Novak Djokovic.
