Boris Becker surprised over Emma Raducanu statistic as she reaches the semi-final in Romania

It has been a fine week for Emma Raducanu thus far, as she closes in on a second career title.

However, Boris Becker has been left stunned by one statistic he saw about her on X, which painted a rather worrying picture for the 22-year-old.

Despite her worldwide status, having been shot into the limelight ever since her US Open title in 2021, Emma Raducanu has struggled to live up to expectations.

Partnering that with a rotten run of injuries, and the years that followed the greatest moment of her career have been far from enjoyable.

It is this torrid run and her inability to find the consistency needed to truly challenge for titles that took Becker by surprise.

Boris Becker left shocked by Emma Raducanu

After all, the statistic in question showcased how many semi-finals Raducanu has made across her career.

This run in Romania to that stage marked just her fifth, with her most recent one coming in Washington last summer.

Who should be Emma Raducanu’s next coach?

Becker, taking to X, reacted with just two words: “That’s it?”

He clearly expected more from a player who is so talked about. Hopefully, should she win the Transylvania Open, Raducanu can begin quietening critics who place so much emphasis on that 2021 US Open triumph.

Emma Raducanu won’t get a better chance at winning a WTA title

Even when this week began, Raducanu was earmarked as the outstanding favourite to claim the title in Transylvania.

And now, having played a handful of matches and reached the semi-finals of the event, the draw could not be more wide open.

Emma Raducanu won her first Grand Slam too soon – Prove me wrong!

The second seed, Jaqueline Cristian, lost in the Round of 16. Then Anastasia Potapova, who had just beaten Raducanu in Melbourne, was dumped out too.

The British number one is just two wins away from a second WTA tour-level title, and Raducanu will arguably never get a better chance at adding to her sole US Open triumph from five years ago.
