Bjorkman, a former Wimbledon semi-finalist and world No.4, will join up with Murray and his team for a test week after he has finished filming ‘Let’s Dance’ TV series in Sweden.

"I'm really looking forward to joining Andy and his team for a test week, which we both hope will lead to joining the team permanently," Bjorkman said on Twitter.

Murray has been looking to boost his coaching team following the departure of assistant coach Dani Vallverdu in November. The Scot travelled without a coach to Rotterdam and Dubai last month with French Fed Cup captain Amelie Mauresmo only contracted to travel with Murray for 25 weeks a year.

"I know him very well from when he played,” Murray was quoted as saying by BBC Sport. “When I came on the tour when I was young, he was very good to me.

"He's got a good resume as a player and a lot of the Swedes turn out to be pretty good coaches. I think they have a good mindset, a lot of them are very calm individuals but extremely hard workers – which I know he was as a player."

Bjorkman, who won nine Grand Slam doubles titles, including three at Wimbledon between 2002 and 2004 with Todd Woodbridge, founded Peak Tennis Academy with fellow former professionals Thomas Johansson and Simon Aspelin and has been involved with the Swedish Davis Cup team and the If Stockholm Open.
