Australian Open fast facts
Serena Williams was unseeded when she won the 2007 Australian Open. The 2003 and 2005 champion arrived in Melbourne ranked No.81 in the world, having only played four tournaments the previous year and her fitness was in question, but she thrashed world No.1 Maria Sharapova 6-1 6-2 in the final.
Going on to win the title again in 2009, 2010 and 2015, Williams is the only woman to win on both the green Rebound Ace surface (1988-2007) and the new Plexicushion Prestige surface (2008-present).
