ATP Miami Open draw: Another tough draw for Andy Murray under the Florida sun

Andy Murray has been handed yet another difficult draw going into the Miami Open as he will face top seed Daniil Medvedev in the second round should he win his opening match.

Murray must beat Argentine Federico Delbonis to take on Medvedev in what would be a second career meeting between the two men.

The two faced off in Brisbane back in 2019, a day which saw Medvedev, then ranked 16th in the world, pull through in straight sets.

In the same quarter, exciting American talent Jenson Brooksby could set a meeting with Medvedev in the last 16 should he progress past Nikoloz Basilashvili and possibly Roberto Bautista Agut first, provided Medvedev gets to the fourth round too.

Still in the top half, defending champion Hubert Hurkacz could meet 12th seed Denis Shapovalov in the fourth round in what would be a mouth-watering contest for a spot in the quarter-finals.

third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas is on course to face rising star Carlos Alcaraz in fourth round should both men get there.

Alcaraz upset Tsitsipas in the third round of the US Open on the way to the quarter-finals in New York, a defeat the Greek will hope to avenge should the do battle in Miami.

Newly-crowned Indian Wells champion Taylor Fritz and world number nine Felix Auger-Aliassime are the highest ranked men in the next eighth of the draw while another young North American star in Sebastian Korda could face Auger-Aliassime in the thrid round.

Moving to the bottom half, Indian Wells semi-finalist Andrey Rublev could meet Nick Kyrgios in the second round if the Aussie wildcard takes down French veteran Adrian Mannarino. Kyrgios and Rublev are 1-1 in their head-to-head having last met at the 2019 US Open, where Rublev won in straight sets.

Another fiery character in 31st seed Fabio Fognini sits in the same section, meaning Rublev or Kyrgios could meet the Italian in the third round, with either match-up making for an explosive encounter.

Further possible exciting match-ups include Gael Monfils and Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round and Grigor Dimitrov against second seed Alexander Zverev in the third.
