Andrey Rublev wins most improved award

ATP Finals Preview: Andrey Rublev

Andrey Rublev will make his debut at the ATP Finals later this month after a hugely impressive year on the tour with five titles to his name.

Rublev started the year in emphatic fashion with back-to-back tour wins in Doha and Adelaide ahead of the Australian Open.

However, despite his impressive start, Andrey Rublev fell short to World No 7 Alexander Zverev in straight sets in the fourth round of the Australian Open and struggled to regain his form in Rotterdam and Dubai prior to the shutdown.

On his return to action, Rublev lost to British No 1 Daniel Evans in the first round of the Cincinnati Masters before losing to compatriot Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-finals of the US Open.

In one of the precursors to Roland Garros in Hamburg, Rublev won his third title of the year with a three-set victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas

However, Tsitsipas avenged his defeat with a comfortable victory against the Russian in the quarter-finals of the French Open.

Following Rublev’s quarter-final exit, the Russian has been in inspired form, beating Denis Shapovalov and Borna Coric to win in St. Petersburg before battling past Lorenzo Sonego to collect his fifth title of the year in Vienna.

Despite his 11 match winning streak, Rublev was defeated by Stan Wawrinka in the second round at the Paris Masters ahead of the ATP Finals later this month.

The 23-year-old will make his debut at the ATP Finals and will bid to become the first Russian to win the event since Nikolay Davydenko in 2009.
