ASICS Gel-Resolution X tennis shoe

Finally, after two years in the making, one of the most popular tennis shoes on the market sees a very exciting and interesting update for 2025. Tennishead dives feet first into the ASICS Gel Resolution X providing you with a full top to bottom breakdown of this fresh incarnation known for excellent comfort, durability and sturdy lateral stability geared towards the robust baseliner.

Scanning around the exterior of the Gel Res X there are quite a few alterations from the previous model. Some being more immediately noticeable than others.

There is no doubt the upper construction is built like a tank and capable of battling through match after match after match on gritty hard and clay courts and coming out pretty much unscathed. After all, this is the major forte of the series. Ventilation wise, airflow is achieved by escape avenues on the side walling, tongue and toe box.

Zooming in on the ankle, there is a basketball style high collar on the medial side, which has been strategically reworked for added security and shielding (especially when stretching into the slide on a wide angle ball).

ASICS Gel-Resolution XMoving to the re-jigged ‘Dynalacing’ system, this is where the shoe really starts to take off or better still locks you down. There is ability to customise your lace set up allowing your foot to feel totally spot on.

Yes, the secure straps are still in place across the tongue (as in the previous iteration), but taking a closer look at the Gel Res X, an extra deck of four eyelets gives you the player, a variety of different options to find your tailor made fit.

By far, the most popular and noticeable part of the latest version is the ‘Dynawall’, which now extends from the toe box area and wraps around the heel zone for optimum protection – offering up increased all-round support and keeps your foot firmly in place when make abrupt side to side movement.

Naturally, cushioning is a big draw. Apparently, Asics originally designed ‘FlyteFoam Blast Plus Eco’ midsole for their running shoes and since reconfigured it to improve the comfort factor on heel impact for this silhouette.

Our final stop is the outsole. Rene Zanbergen, Senior Merchandise Manager for Core Performance Sports at ASICS EMEA explained during the official launch of the Gel Resolution X at The Australian Open in Melbourne “This is something you will see in every shoe we offer in the baseline playing style. A full length outsole, so more rubber underneath the foot going from the rear foot into the forefoot. Because by having more rubber, you will have more grip and stability”.

The design pattern of the slightly more aggressive grip is now split down the middle of the tread with a shapely curve carved along most of the sole. This may seem a subtle change, but is a very specific update in order to reach a higher performance level for this series.

Watch out for our full review of the ASICS Gel Resolution X coming soon.
