Ashleigh Barty reveals next career move after shock retirement

Former World number one Ashleigh Barty has announced she is to embark on a new career venture outside the world of sport.

Following her shock retirement from tennis last month, there has been lots of speculation to what the Australian’s next career move might be. Many believed she was going to return to golf after she won the Brookwater Golf and Country Club ladies tournament in Australia for a second time after first winning the event in 2020.

There was also speculation she would return to the world of professional cricket, having previously played for Brisbane Heat in the inaugural Women’s Big Bash League in 2015 and 2016. However, Barty’s next career move is something very different.

In an exclusive interview with NewsCorp media Barty revealed that she will publish a series of children’s books as well as a memoir. The children’s books will be a six-part series called Little Ash and will be loosely based on her own life and own experiences with her family.

In the interview Barty said her inspiration to write stemmed from her five-year-old niece, Lucy. The three-time Grand Slam Champion said, “This project has been so much fun and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do… Lucy is my North Star. She’s the perfect age to understand stories and plots and read chapter books.”

She went on to discuss her life post-retirement and being able to spend quality time with family. “I’ve spent so much time with my beautiful family and my nieces and nephew and you couldn’t wipe that smile off my face in the last few weeks.”
