Aryna Sabalenka and Serena Williams are two of the biggest names in the women’s singles draw at Wimbledon this year.

Sabalenka is the current world number one, while 23-time Grand Slam champion Williams is returning to singles competition for the first time in four years at Wimbledon.

Both players already know who they will play in the first round, with Williams drawn against Maya Joint in the first round.

Sabalenka will play qualifier Teodora Kostovic in her first round match, and she has now reacted to Williams’ singles comeback ahead of her opening match at Wimbledon.

Aryna Sabalenka says she is ‘super excited’ to see Serena Williams at Wimbledon

Sabalenka spoke to the media in her pre-tournament press conference at Wimbledon, where she was asked about Williams’ comeback and how far she thinks she could go at this year’s grass court major.

Although she did not make an actual prediction, Sabalenka explained that she was ‘super excited’ to see Williams back at Wimbledon.

“I don’t know how far,” responded Sabalenka. “I’m super excited to see her play. That’s incredible. I heard she said she’s doing that for her kids to see her play. They really get excited about that.

“It’s amazing what she’s doing. Also it’s Serena Williams, everyone was talking about that. She’s bringing more eyes on tennis. It’s a good thing for tennis. I’m really excited to see her play.”

Sabalenka and Williams have not both played at Wimbledon together since 2021, which was before she had reached her first Grand Slam final.

When could Aryna Sabalenka play Serena Williams at Wimbledon this year?

With Williams being an unseeded player, there was a lot of attention on the women’s singles draw at Wimbledon this year as she could have faced anyone from Sabalenka in the first round.

Instead, Williams and Sabalenka are in opposite halves of the draw and could only face each other if they both reach the Wimbledon final.

Even if they did both reach the Wimbledon final, it would not be the first time that Williams and Sabalenka have played each other.

They also met at the 2021 Australian Open, where Williams beat Sabalenka 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

The Wimbledon main draw will begin on Monday, June 29, when Sabalenka will play her first round match, while Williams will begin her campaign on Tuesday, June 30.
