On Tuesday, Arthur Rinderknech was set to contest his first-round match at the Swiss Indoors Open against qualifier Raphael Collignon.

However, mere hours before he was due to step on court, Rinderknech has chosen to withdraw from the tournament.

On his Instagram story, Rinderknech explained his decision. He said: “With my team, the decision was made to withdraw me from the Basel tournament.

Following Rinderknech’s withdrawal, Collignon will now play lucky loser Valentin Royer in the next round. The winner will face ninth seed Denis Shapovalov or Marcos Giron in the next round.

Rinderknech will not lose any ATP points after withdrawing. He had no points to defend at the Swiss Indoors tournament as he lost in the first qualifying round in last year’s event.

Who is competing at the Swiss Indoors event?

Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton and Casper Ruud are just some of the names preparing to compete for the Swiss Indoors title this week.

Fritz faces a tough first-round test against Valentin Vacherot, while Shelton and Ruud will face Kamil Majchrzak and Quentin Halys, respectively.

The ATP 500 event, won by Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in 2024, began on Monday and will continue until October 26.

On the first day’s play, seventh seed Jakub Mensik defeated world number 479 Henry Bernet, while Alejandro Davidovich Fokina defeated Italian player Lorenzo Sonego.
