Arthur Rinderknech makes career history with shock win against Alexander Zverev in Shanghai

Arthur Rinderknech surprised Alexander Zverev yet again by knocking him out of the Shanghai Masters.

The Frenchman knocked Zverev out of Wimbledon earlier this year and followed it up by dumping the World No. 3 out of the Shanghai Masters.

Zverev’s inconsistency has let him down in 2025, and his season has continued its downward trend as the season draws to a close.

For Rinderknech, however, the big Frenchman picked up a career-best accolade by defeating Zverev in Shanghai.

Arthur Rinderknech picks up more wins in 2025 than any other season

Rinderknech fought back from a set down to defeat Zverev 4-6 6-3 6-2 and confirm his place in the fourth round.

The Frenchman will play Jiri Lehecka for a chance to compete in his very first ATP 1000 quarter-final in Shanghai.

Whether or not Rinderknech progresses any further in Shanghai, the Frenchman has already achieved his best ever season.

Rinderknech’s victory over Zverev was his 23rd of the season, which is more than any previous season for the star.

The Frenchman’s previous best record for wins in a season was 22 in 2022, so the star has plenty more to celebrate than yet another win against Zverev.

Arthur Rinderknech picks up his third top 10 win

Rinderknech will return to the ATP Tour top 50 after his win over Zverev, and he also picked up his third win over a top 10 player.

Two of those wins for the Frenchman came against Zverev, with the other coming against American Ben Shelton.

Rinderknech defeated Shelton in the first round of Queen’s in June 2025, when the American was ranked World No. 10.

The Frenchman’s win over Zverev at the Shanghai Masters was his first victory over a top 10 player on hard court.
