Alexander Zverev is at the centre of an unfortunate rankings statistic after the US Open

Alexander Zverev has a significant gap to close if he wants to catch up with Jannik Sinner in the ATP rankings.

Following the US Open, Zverev lost 300 ATP points as a result of his third-round loss to Jannik Sinner. Meanwhile, Sinner lost 700 points due to his loss in the US Open final to Carlos Alcaraz.

Despite gaining ground on the Italian, Zverev – who is ranked third in the world – is nowhere close to catching his rival in second place.

Zverev cannot seem to catch the two players above him in the rankings, no matter how hard he perseveres.

The gap between Zverev and Sinner now stands at 4,850 ATP points, a number which has resulted in the German being at the centre of a regrettable statistic.

The points gap between Alexander Zverev and the world number 47

As said previously, the points gap between Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner – who are one place apart in the ATP rankings – now sits at 4,850 points.

This gargantuan deficit is almost exactly the same as the one between Zverev and the world number 47: Miomir Kecmanovic.

Kecmanovic currently has 1,086 ATP points to his name, while Zverev has 5,930. This means there is a 4,844-point gap between Zverev and Kecmanovic.

This difference largely illustrates how dominant Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have been on the ATP Tour, rather than the shortcomings of Alexander Zverev.

However, it has been a disappointing few months for the German star.

After all, he was upset in the Wimbledon first round, before later being stunned by Felix Auger-Aliassime at the US Open.

Alexander Zverev’s most recent ATP Tour title

Alexander Zverev’s last ATP Tour title came at the Munich Open in April.

The German swept through the draw, defeating Alexandre Muller, Daniel Altmaier, Talon Griekspoor and Fábián Marozsán on his way to the final.

In the final, he defeated American star Ben Shelton, 6-2 6-4.

With 24 ATP Tour singles titles to his name, he has the most of any active male player aside from Novak Djokovic.
