Andy Roddick mocks Gerard Pique as he slams plan to grow the Davis Cup


Andy Roddick is a former world No.1 & US Open champion who’s not afraid to broadcast his views and now he’s made his dismay clear about Gerard Pique’s plans for the Davis Cup

 

Andy Roddick won the Davis Cup in 2007 but now he wants the new format competition to hold back on it’s plans to expand to a 24 team, two week event as he says that the tennis calendar is already too long.

Roddick took to Twitter to voice his concerns and mock the recent plans laid out by Gerard Pique. Barcelona football legend Pique is part of the consortium that took control of the Davis Cup and has revolutionised the format, but now he wants to grow the competition which has drawn the ire of Roddick.

Roddick mocked on his personal Twitter account, “We should definitely keep adding weeks to the calendar. Has proven to be super easy in the past. Definitely not a problem that’s existed for 25 years”

The new Davis Cup kicks off later this month with the first ever finals being contested over a single week and 18 teams battling it out in groups before the best 8 enter a knock out stage to find the 2019 Davis Cup winners.
