Andy Murray withdraws from Dubai after birth of fourth child

Andy Murray has pulled out of next week’s Dubai Tennis Championships after he and his wife Kim celebrated the birth of their fourth child on Friday morning.

The 33-year-old Brit was planning to play the ATP 500 event, but will instead spend time with his family. Murray has two daughters called Edie and Sophia, and a son named Teddy.

The three-time major champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist still hopes to feature at the Miami Open later this month, according to Stuart Fraser of The Times.

After missing the Australian Open due to a positive Covid-19 test, Murray has played three tournaments. His most recent appearance came in Rotterdam last week – where he was defeated by eventual champion Andrey Rublev in the second round.

Roger Federer also withdrew from Dubai following his quarter-final defeat to Nikoloz Basilashvili at the Qatar Open on Thursday.

The 18-time Grand Slam champion was playing in his first event since the 2020 Australian Open after undergoing two knee surgeries last year.
