Carlos Alcaraz has taken the tennis world by storm, earning plaudits from everyone in the sport, and now Andy Murray has compared him to a true sporting great.

Alcaraz has been tipped to revolutionise tennis after dominating the sport alongside his rival Jannik Sinner.

The US Open and Roland Garros champion recently returned to top spot in the ATP Tour rankings, and he continues to be one of the sport’s biggest attractions.

Andy Murray, a long-time admirer of Carlos Alcaraz, has compared the Spaniard to a legendary sportsman away from tennis.

Andy Murray compares Carlos Alcaraz to Ronaldinho

Murray and Alcaraz crossed paths briefly in the latter stages of the three-time Grand Slam champion’s career.

The two stars played each other twice, sharing a win apiece, before Murray retired and watched on as the Spaniard’s has career evolved.

Murray has continued to be a fan of Alcaraz and has compared him to an all-time sporting great in an interview with The Sunday Times.

“Alcaraz’s tennis reminds me of the football of my childhood favorite Ronaldinho, whom I was lucky enough to watch live several times,” said Murray about the six-time Grand Slam champion.

Murray believes their joyous personality in their respective sports is exactly the same. “Both have all this talent and skill, they obviously want to win, but they play with a smile on their face,” he said.

Alcaraz’s smile has become one of the most iconic parts of his game, with McEnroe recently stating he was ‘jealous’ of Alcaraz because of it.

Carlos Alcaraz has often praised Andy Murray for his career

Alcaraz will surely be delighted with Murray’s praise as he has often gone on record with his admiration for the Scottish star.

In 2023, the star revealed he watched clips of Murray to help him prepare for Queen’s and Wimbledon, both tournaments of which he won.

“For me Roger and Andy are the best players that are moving great on grass,” said Alcaraz at Queen’s Club.

“So I want to be the same,” he added. “I try to put similar stuff in my game that Roger and Andy do in grass.”

Alcaraz and Murray have often taken potshots at each other’s golf game, particularly at this year’s Wimbledon when they played together.
