Andrey Rublev fights back to make Tour Finals semi-finals
Andrey Rublev fought from a set down to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas and make the ATP World Tour Finals semi finals.
Rublev, seeded sixth at the event, came back to win 3-6 6-3 6-2 to book his place at the expense of Tsitsipas, who also would have qualified from the group with a win.
The Russian had lost his two previous encounters in 2022 to Tsitsipas but showed his class at key moments, hitting 36 winners in a match that lasted one hour and 42 minutes.
Tsitsipas, the number three seed and winner of the 2019 finals, started the stronger, breaking the Rublev serve in the fourth game which proved decisive. The Greek only dropped two points on serve throughout the entirety of the first set.
Nevertheless, Rublev fought back, breaking the Tsitsipas serve to go up 5-3 before bravely defending a break back point on his way to serving out the second set.
The sixth seed carried this momentum on in the third, breaking the Tsitsipas serve twice and sealing his place in the semi-finals.
‘’I didn’t give up. I kept fighting and playing,’’ Rublev said in his post-match press conference.
‘’I thought I would have chances if I just gave my best. I managed to turn the match around and I am happy to be in the semis.’’
Andrey Rublev had failed to reach the semi-final stage at his two previous tour final appearances but will now face Casper Ruud for a place in Sunday’s final.

‘’I am really looking forward to the match because Casper is such a nice person on and off the court,’’ Rublev said.
‘’He has achieved so many good things this season, so it’s going to be a really good challenge for me. I hope I will do my best and I will see what happens.’’
Novak Djokovic, who looking to equal Roger Federer’s record of 6 tour final wins, will face Taylor Fritz in the other semi final.
