Alexandra Eala continues to break new ground in tennis on the Asian leg of the WTA Tour.
Eala opted for smaller Chinese tournaments rather than the China Open, playing the WTA 125 events, the Suzhou Open, and Jingshan Open in September.
The Filipino saw some success in Jingshan, reaching the semi-finals in a tournament that Eala described as ‘crazy’.
The star failed to qualify for the Wuhan Open, but she still managed to achieve an impressive milestone on the WTA Tour.

Alexandra Eala reaches new career high WTA ranking
Eala lost in three sets to Moyuka Uchijima during the Wuhan Open qualifiers, but her performances in Jingshan and Suzhou have helped her climb the rankings.
The 20-year-old has climbed the rankings in 2025, particularly due to her exploits at the Miami Open in March.
The star defeated Iga Swiatek and Madison Keys at the WTA 1000 event and she’s continued her ascent up the rankings for the rest of the year.
After two successful tournaments in Asia, Eala has now reached a career high ranking of World No. 52, overtaking Maria Sakkari.
Eala will be hoping to transfer her excellent performances at WTA events to the Grand Slams in 2026.
The Filipino won just one match at Grand Slams in 2025, stunning Clara Tauson in the first round of the US Open.
Where will Alexandra Eala play next?
Eala has been confirmed for the 2025 Japan Women’s Open in Osaka, which runs from October 13 until October 19.
The 20-year-old could crack the top 50 of the WTA Tour rankings with a strong performance at the Japanese competition.
Eala is yet to play the Japanese tournament, but the 250 is often missed by the biggest hitters on the WTA Tour.
This year’s seeds at the Japanese tournament include Naomi Osaka, Linda Noskova, Elise Mertens, and Leylah Fernandez.
