Alexandra Eala’s sensational 2025 season continues, as she continues to make her country proud.

Tennis is an odd sport in which teamwork is a trait seldom needed.

Instead, players mainly play for themselves, rarely serving a greater goal other than personal gain, whether that be financial or otherwise.

That makes the few events that do represent more than just the individual even more special, like the Olympics or the Davis Cup.

How high do you think Alexandra Eala’s ceiling is?

Representing one’s nation can often be the most important moment of a tennis player’s career, and for Alexandra Eala, her latest triumph on behalf of the Philippines could certainly be that, given how young her career still is.

Having broken through in 2025 after a stellar junior career, it feels like the 20-year-old makes new history for her nation every time she takes to the court.

After all, Eala recently won two WTA awards, such was her remarkable campaign.

What could stop Alexandra Eala from finishing 2026 inside the top 20?

“Once she gets her game right, she could be among the best in the world.”

However, competing on behalf of the Philippines at the SEA Games, she was representing something bigger than herself.

Despite her youth, she has routinely emphasised her national pride.

That should make her latest triumph at the aforementioned event, winning the gold medal, even more special.

In doing so, Eala has become the first Filipino to take the top honour at these games in 26 years.

She beat Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew, claiming a dominant straight-sets victory.

Alexandra Eala’s perfect Australian Open preparation

There is arguably no force more powerful in tennis than momentum, and Eala certainly has that now.

After all, powering through the competition to claim the gold medal, she is swiftly making winning a habit.

It therefore makes her upcoming appearance at the Australian Open that much more exciting, as it really feels like a deep run is in the offing for this young superstar.

Eala’s big breakthrough came at a Masters 1000 event, where she toppled several elite-level players on her way to the semi-final.

She has already exhibited her penchant for performing on the biggest stage, with Mats Wilander comparing Eala to John McEnroe following that performance.

The Filipino superstar will properly kickstart her 2026 season in Auckland at the ASB Classic, before heading to Melbourne as a dark horse to go really deep in the first Grand Slam of the year.
