Alexander Zverev fell victim to yet another Jannik Sinner mauling yesterday afternoon, as he lost comfortably in the Monte Carlo semi-finals.

It marks the third time he has faced the Italian this year, and the third time he has lost to the former world number one.

It’s a match-up that simply doesn’t agree with the 28-year-old.

It seems that, no matter the surface or conditions, Alexander Zverev cannot find a way to unsettle the perfect consistency of Jannik Sinner. Zverev spoke after the match about the current state of their rivalry.

Zverev began his interview with a tough admission.

He simply stated: “At the moment, Sinner is the toughest player I face.”

The head-to-head certainly supports that notion, with recent form only skewing it further in Sinner’s favour. He has won all three of their meetings in 2026, each of which came in semi-finals.

Who wins the Monte-Carlo Masters final?

Zverev would continue by adding: “When you don’t play at your absolute best against him, you don’t have any chance. It’s like playing against a wall because he doesn’t leave you any space or opportunity.”

Whilst it’s back to the drawing board for the German, Sinner actually made history as he reached the Monte Carlo Masters final.

Alexander Zverev’s poor head-to-head record against Jannik Sinner gets worse

Zverev will be keen to figure out something to turn the tide in his rivalry with Sinner, considering his recent form against him.

After all, he has lost their last eight meetings, with the head-to-head now massively in the youngster’s favour.

What does Alexander Zverev need to change to beat Jannik Sinner again?

He's now lost nine times in a row…

Jannik Sinner at the Monte-Carlo Masters

Sinner has won nine of their 13 matches against one another, and it’s hard to imagine him losing another anytime soon, given the current trajectory of these two superstars.

Zverev has made a conscious change to his game of late, in an effort to be more aggressive. However, it will take some time before that key alteration pays dividends, particularly against the world’s very best.

However, at 28 years old and with Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz seemingly only getting better, time is running out for the three-time Grand Slam finalist to claim his ultimate goal.
