Alex De Minaur has impressed in 2025, but he’s still yet to win a major tournament in his career.

De Minaur continues to break Australian tennis records as he hones in on the top five of the ATP Tour rankings.

The World No. 7 has three ATP 500 titles, but he’s as yet failed to lift one of the more illustrious trophies on the tour.

Fellow Aussie Mark Philippoussis has given De Minaur advice on how to finally win a major trophy.

Mark Philippoussis tells Alex De Minaur how to win a Grand Slam

Speaking to ABC Australia, Mark Philippoussis said De Minaur can learn from his 2025 season in order to finally win a Grand Slam.

“He’s had an incredible, consistent year,” said the former Grand Slam finalist. “It’s been an incredible year for him. But this is where, as an athlete, you have to figure out what works good for you.

“You know, ‘What did I do last year that I could change next year?’ One thing with Alex and I’ve said this in the past, I’m very very open. We know the game he possesses.

“We know the heart he has. We know the physicality he brings to the game of tennis. Over two weeks for a grand slam. You’ve got to win seven best-of-five set matches to win a grand slam.

“You have to be able to win some cheaper points. You’re going to have to be able to not fight as hard for a service game. You know what I mean?

“At times, we know what he brings to the table, how oppressive he is,” said Philippoussis, who believes there’s simple things the Australian can do to win a major.

“But I wish he could just get some easier points at stages where maybe a little bit of pop on the serve or stepping in a little bit early on the floor and backhand. Now that’s easier said than done.

“If I had to say one thing about him, is maybe seeing him work on taking balls a touch earlier, looking to be a little bit more aggressive.

“And of course that means that taking a little bit more risks but I think it’s,  second stages, those second weeks in the Grand Slams especially against those top players like Sinner, Alcaraz, or Djokovic.

“Those top players. ‘Okay, I’m going to have to play out of my comfort zone to beat this guy’. He’s got to look with his team and go, ‘Okay, I’ve got to try something different here on those big points.

“I’ve got to go a little bit more of our comfort zone’, where the first week he can afford to continue to play his game, be aggressive, use his athleticism. But against those, you know, top three, top four in the world, you have to play a little bit differently. You’ve got to take risks at times.”

Alex De Minaur’s best Grand Slam performances

The Australian has been the epitome of consistency at major events since making his first quarter-finals in 2024.

De Minaur has reached the quarter-finals of every Grand Slam after performances in the last two years, but he is yet to go any further.

The World No. 7 reached the last eight of the Australian Open and the US Open this year, a feat he managed at Wimbledon and Roland Garros in 2024.

The star has won ATP 500 events and reached a final of a 1000 event in 2023 at the Canadian Open, where he lost to Jannik Sinner.
