Alex de Minaur’s consistency is one of his more impressive attributes, but his standards are beginning to slip in 2026.
De Minaur started the season strongly by winning Rotterdam and reaching yet another quarter-final at the Australian Open.
Since then the star has been in what can only be described as free-fall, with just one quarter-final appearance to his name in five tournaments.
While the Australian is still firmly in the top 10 of the ATP Tour rankings, he should be very concerned by his latest run of form.

Alex de Minaur’s concerning form in 2026
Fresh from winning the Rotterdam Open, De Minaur headed to the Acapulco Open as the second seed in the event.
The Australian’s time in the tournament was over before it could even get started as he lost to Patrick Kypson in the first round.
Will Alex de Minaur finish 2026 ranked inside the top five?
Alex de Minaur’s form since winning the Rotterdam Open
- Acapulco – R1: Patrick Kypson
- Indian Wells – R3: Cameron Norrie
- Miami Open – R2: Stefanos Tsitsipas
- Monte-Carlo Masters – QF: Valentin Vacherot
- Barcelona Open – R2: Hamad Medjedovic
Early defeats have followed in Miami and the Barcelona Open and the most concerning element is the players who are inflicting those losses.
Every player de Minaur has lost to in recent months has been ranked outside the top 20 of the ATP Tour rankings.
In the case of Kypson, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Hamad Medjedovic, they were all ranked well outside the top 50.
De Minaur has long been touted as one of the best players on Tour outside the Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner duopoly, but he’s not even coming anywhere near challenging them at the moment.
Alex de Minaur’s clay court schedule
The Australian has picked a difficult time to hit a rough patch of form during a relentless section of the ATP Tour calendar.
Who will win the Barcelona Open? 🤔
De Minaur will now face a string of Masters events during the European clay court swing, with the Madrid Open, the Italian Open, and Roland Garros to come.
The Australian has not yet signed up to any smaller events on the clay, although that could happen if he continues to lose early in tournaments.
De Minaur has also confirmed his first grass court tournament of the season, which will be Queen’s in June.
