Alex de Minaur has finally stopped the rot.

Heading into Thursday’s clash against Taylor Fritz, Alex de Minaur had a 0-16 record against top-10 opponents dating back to the 2024 French Open.

Before today, de Minaur’s last victory against a top 10 opponent came against Daniil Medvedev in the 2024 French Open fourth round.

This unfortunate streak was ended on Thursday when de Minaur defeated Taylor Fritz in his final round robin match at the ATP Finals.

By defeating Fritz, de Minaur also reached a statistical total that has not been accomplished by an Australian male player since 2019.

Alex de Minaur has won 20 matches against top-10 players

As per OptaAce, Alex de Minaur has now won 20 matches against top-10 players during his career.

He is the first Australian to achieve this monumental feat since Nick Kyrgios in 2019.

De Minaur will now have to wait and see if he qualifies for the semi-final stage, as the matter is now out of his hands.

As it stands, the Australian will finish second in his group, ahead of Lorenzo Musetti and behind Carlos Alcaraz.

However, if Musetti defeats Alcaraz on Thursday evening, he will top the group, with Alcaraz in second place.

This is because Musetti and Alcaraz would both have 2-1 records at the Finals, while de Minaur has ended with a 1-2 record.

If Alcaraz defeats Musetti, he will win the group, and de Minaur will finish in second place.

De Minaur could enter the ATP top five for the first time

If Alex de Minaur qualifies for the semi-finals in Turin, he will have the opportunity to achieve top-five ATP status for the first time in his career.

As it stands, de Minaur is 200 points behind Taylor Fritz, who is ranked fifth in the world.

However, if de Minaur were to win a potential semi-final match in Turin, he would leapfrog Fritz into the number five spot.
