Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina compares Carlos Alcaraz to the Big Three
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has compared playing fellow Spaniard, Carlos Alcaraz, to playing against Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic, saying: ‘it’s like you have to play against the ‘Big 3.”
Davidovich-Fokina, who is currently ranked 38 in the world, said: “Carlos Alcaraz is at the level he wants’’ with him already winning the prestigious Indian Wells title this season, in addition to a clay court title in Rio.
He added that when playing the current US open champion, the strategy is not about long-term vision but about going for and playing every ball because “it is a matter of being focused on each point.”
Murcia born Davidovich-Fokina also made parallels to his Malaga counterpart: “We both come very hungry, we want to do our best. We know each other quite a bit. I know that he is at a good level.”
Davidovich-Fokina, who is four years older than Alcaraz, has recently been performing well on clay, reaching the quarter finals, at the ATP 250 event, in Estoril Portugal.
Meanwhile Alcaraz is ramping up his Grand Slam campaign this season and currently playing in his second clay court tournament this spring in Barcelona.
Alcaraz, 19, is the younger of the two players, while Fokina, 23, is the second youngest Spaniard in the top 50.
Both players are performing well on clay so far this season and all eyes will be on Alcaraz in the forthcoming major tournaments as he seeks to achieve his first Grand Slam on European soil.
