Andy Murray reveals he ‘never felt the same’ after his match with Wawrinka in 2017

Andy Murray admitted that he has never fully recovered from his five-set loss against Stan Wawrinka in the semi-finals of Roland Garros in 2017.  

Murray, who is making his first appearance at Roland Garros since his semi-final defeat to Wawrinka in 2017, faces the 2015 French Open champion in a brutal first round match.

“Obviously it’s an amusing draw” said Murray. “It’s actually the first time I’ve watched the draw in the last ten years. We’ve got this group chat with a bunch of the guys and they sent a link through to it and I watched it.”

Murray reacted to his draw against Wawrinka by looking back to their 2017 match, which aggravated his hip injury and saw him undergo two major hip operations. “Obviously a very tough match. That match I played against Stan a few years ago was a brutal one. I kind of knew something was up before the Nishkori match there (in the quarter finals). I didn’t know it was that bad but then at the end of the Stan match, in the fifth set I was struggling to push up on my serve and moving to my forehand, and I have never felt the same after that match.”
