‘I know how to sort it out before Roland Garros – and I will,’ vows Rafael Nadal after shock defeat

Rafael Nadal has promised to ‘sort it out’ in time for Roland Garros after he suffered a shock defeat to Diego Schwartzman in Rome.

The world number two was no only beaten but also outclassed by Argentinian Schwartzman, who had never won in nine meetings between the two before the Italian Open.

Nadal, though, is not worried and is determined to see the positives instead after six months away from tennis.

“I will continue to work,” Nadal said after the loss.

“It’s a special and unpredictable year, I’ll probably go back home [to prepare for Paris] and let’s see.

“At least I was able to play three matches, I fought to the end. But you can’t win by losing your serve so many times.

“I have to sort it out. I know how to do it. It’s not no time to look for excuses ”

Nadal will travel to Roland Garros as the overwhelming favourite after winning 12 of this 19 Grand Slam titles on the Paris clay.
