Speaking on social media Federer said, “I had to have an arthroscopic procedure on my right knee. I plan to take the necessary time to be 100% ready to play at my highest level. I look forward to seeing everyone back on tour at the start of 2021.”
Federer is chasing more Grand Slam titles to keep him ahead of Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic. With the potential for two more Grand Slam events in 2020 at the US Open and the French Open, Federer could start the 2021 season no longer the leading player in terms of Grand Slam singles titles.
