‘Things can be better’ – Novak Djokovic sends ominous warning to rivals after dominant showing in Dubai
Novak Djokovic continued his dominant start to the season with a strong opening to his Dubai Championships campaign.
The world number one went into the tournament riding a 13-game winning streak, and extended it further by comprehensively beating Malek Jaziri 6-1, 6-2 in the first round.
“It’s a great way to start the tournament,” Djokovic, who is has not won in Dubai since 2013 and is appearing for the first time in four years.
“I miss playing here. I really enjoy it. I enjoy night sessions.
2I think I’ve done everything as well as I imagined it to be for the first match.
“Of course, there are things that always can be improved, things that can be better.
“But I have to be satisfied with the performance.”
Seasoned German Philipp Kohlschreiber is next for Djokovic after he overcame Egypt’s Mohamed Safwat 4-6, 6-4, 6-0, and it’s a test that Djokovic is certainly taking seriously.
“I lost to him (Kohlschreiber) in straight sets in Indian Wells last year, so I am aware of what he’s capable of,” Djokovic said.
“He likes actually playing top players on a big stage. He has lots of experience. I certainly will not underestimate him.”
