‘My shoulder injury has flared up’ – Nick Kyrgios gives injury update after pulling out of New York Open

Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from the New York Open, explaining that a shoulder injury is currently keeping him out.

Kyrgios was one of the stars of the Australian Open, where he was eliminated by Rafael Nadal in the last 16.

He said after the tournament that he hoped to push on from there, but that will have to wait for now.

“Hey New York Open fans, really disappointed I can’t make it this year,” Nick Kyrgios said in a statement.

“I was really looking forward to playing on the black courts at NYCB Live.

“My shoulder has flared up and I am not able to play.

“I hope everyone still goes out to see the great tennis at the New York Open.”

Despite Kyrgios’ absence, it remains a strong line-up in New York.

John Isner is the top seed, but has American rivals Tennys Sandgren and Reilly Opelka in his half of the draw.

British number two and seventh seed Cam Norrie is also in that half, as is Kevin Anderson, who is unseeded making his way back from a nightmare 2019 with injury.

Milos Raonic and Kyle Edmund headline the bottom half of the draw.
