Fever-Tree Queen’s Club Championships 2020 preview: Will Andy Murray defend his title?
The Fever-Tree Championships, also known as Queen’s, is one of the longest running tournaments in the world. Since it’s debut in 1890, this grass court tournament has attracted players such as Rod Laver, John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors and Andy Murray.
Murray is a five-time champion at the event and in 2016, he became the sixth player to complete the Queen’s-Wimbledon double. Queen’s is played a few weeks before Wimbledon and it was voted the ATP 500 tournament of the year in 2015, 2016 and 2018.
Preview:
After hinting at retirement in January 2019, Andy Murray made his on-court return at Queens. He won the doubles with single’s champion, Feliciano Lopez and Murray is scheduled to play here this year. Murray has not competed this season, as he is still recovering from a pelvic-bone injury. He was advised by his former coach, Alex Corretja to skip the French Open and prepare for Wimbledon.
Milos Raonic best results have come on grass and he will return to Queen’s. The Canadian has not been in the spotlight the last few years, but he reminded many that he is still a force to be reckoned with as he cruised to the Australian Open quarter-finals before falling to eventual champion, Novak Djokovic.
Stanislas Wawrinka is another big player who could win their first Queen’s title. Wawrinka has not attained his best results on grass, but is a multi-time Grand Slam champion and has reached two Wimbledon quarter-finals.
