Open 13 Provence 2020 preview
An impressive group of players including 2019 US Open finalist Daniil Medvedev and Greek superstar Stefanos Tsitsipas will gather in Marseille from the 17 – 23 February for the Open 13 Provence 2020.
The tournament, entering its 28th year, always attracts a high calibre line-up with this year’s top eight seeds all ranked in the world’s top 30. Tsitsipas won the title in 2019 which was only his second title on the ATP Tour. The 21-year-old was the top seed on that occasion and cruised to the title without dropping a set. He beat Mikhail Kukushkin in the final which set up a very successful season for the world number six, culminating in a win at the ATP Finals in London.
Traditionally, French players have been very successful at the event. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has won it three times, unfortunately he has withdrawn from this year’s edition due to injury. Giles Simon is another player who has enjoyed playing in Marseille with two titles to his name. Even the GOAT himself, Roger Federer, has graced the courts on a few occasions, winning back in 2003. Other past winners include German legend Boris Becker, the ‘Tower of Tandil’ Juan Martin del Potro and three-time Grand Slam Champion Andy Murray.
