Comeback King! Roger Federer results prove he’s the best at recovering from losing position
Roger Federer may be in the twilight of his tennis career but that hasn’t stopped him topping the tables for the best players at recovering from losing positions
Roger Federer has a record for coming back to win from being a set down which is better that any other player on the ATP Tour in 2019. Federer managed to win 53% of the matches where he lost the first set with his nearest challenger only managing 48%.
There are of course many reasons that could account for these results and every match will have a different story behind it. For example, maybe as Federer is one of the older players on tour it takes him longer to get into his stride in a match hence why he’s often lost the first set against someone he would normally expect to beat. Or when analysing Andy Murray on this list you could look at the fact that he’s still finding his form after a long injury layoff which might account for him often losing the first set against a lower ranked player before coming through to win the match.
The full lost of the top 8 players at recovering from losing the first set top win is:
53’8% ?? Federer (7-6)
48’1% ?? Coric (13-14)
42’9% ?? Bublik (9-12)
40% ?? Thiem (10-15)
40% ?? Murray (4-6)
40% ?? Chung (4-6)
40% ?? Nadal (4-6)
39’1% ?? Basilashvili (9-14)
